Singapore Specials Day

Singapore Specials Day is the first ever event that celebrates our very locally born, bred and uniquely local stray dogs.

There has been a common stigma that such strays can be vicious and may attack. Due to this discrimination, our Singapore Specials may have a decreased chance of being adopted and may have to stay at dog shelters for longer periods.

To raise awareness on the issues of such dogs, Exclusively Mongrels Limited (EM), a Non-Profit Organisation, held the inaugural Singapore Specials’ Day (SSD) on October 28, 2017.

With this event, the NPO aims to educate the public about our Singapore Specials and to promote the adoption of suchs strays.

Special guests of the event included :Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development; Mr Henry Kwek, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nee Soon GRC; and Mr Lim Kok Thai, newly appointed CEO of the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA). Other special guests included local artistes Gwendolyn Lee, Wilson Wong, Rachel Chua, and Jacintha Abisheganaden.

Approximately 350 people and their doggos gathered at Leban Park — making it the largest event by any local animal welfare group in 2017. The event started with "SSD presents Dogathon”, where 70 dogs and their owners took part in a 1.5 km fun run.
